Issue

When authorizing the eReader device on Mac OS X, you receive error "E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY."

Solution

  1. Choose Utilities > Open Keychain Access Application.

  2. Select the login keychain and unlock it by clicking the padlock icon next to it.

If you do not remember the keychain password, see Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X.

  3. On the right side, there's a list of applications. Double-click Digital Editions.

  4. Select the Access Control Menu.

  5. Select Allow All Applications To Access This Item and save changes.

  6. Launch Digital Editions and you can authorize now.

Additional information

This issue occurs when Digital Editions does not pass the keychain authentication process. The steps above helps by bypassing the Keychain access and adding Digital Editions in allowed applications list.
