Overview

After importing a PowerPoint presentation into Adobe Captivate, the platform automatically imports all media objects, including images, audio, and video. You can edit these imported elements directly within Captivate or enrich your eLearning slides by adding new media, including images, videos, SVGs, web objects, or characters.

Add new media to imported slides

To insert an image into an imported PowerPoint slide in Adobe Captivate, simply add a new media object. You can choose an image either from the Captivate asset library or upload one directly from your local machine. This allows you to enhance your slide without affecting the original imported content.

  1. Select Add media from the left toolbar.

  2. Select the media type to insert on the slide. 

  3. Select the media source, either from the system, available assets, or the web (videos and web objects).

  4. Customize the media by adjusting its visual appearance, resizing it, and repositioning it on the slide.

  5. Preview the slide to ensure the media appears correctly for the learner.

Work with images

Imported images preserve their visual quality and can be further refined with Captivate’s editing tools.

You can make quick adjustments to images that came in with your PowerPoint slides.

  1. Select the image to reveal corner handles for resizing.

  2. Select the    icon or double-click on the image to crop the image.

  3. Use the Transform settings in the Visual properties panel to fine-tune image placement and appearance:

    • Resize precisely: Enter exact width (W) and height (H) values.
    • Maintain proportions: Enable Lock aspect to preserve the image’s ratio.
    • Position accurately: Set X and Y coordinates or drag the image freely.
    • Rotate: Apply degree values (e.g., 45°) for angled layouts.
    • Flip: Flip the image vertically or horizontally.

  4. Apply filters or visual effects from the Visual properties panel.

Replace images on imported slides

To replace an image on imported slides, select a relevant one from Assets or upload it from your system.

Supported image formats:

  • JPEG/JPG
  • PNG
  • BMP
  • ICO
  • GIF

  1. Select the image on an imported slide.

Work with videos

Adobe Captivate supports both local video files and web videos from YouTube or Vimeo. The available editing options depend on how the video was initially embedded in PowerPoint.

  • System videos (local files):  The MP4 video format is supported.

  • Web videos (YouTube, Vimeo): These can be imported, but editing options are limited. You cannot add closed captions, but if captions are included in the original video, they can be enabled during playback.

  1. Select Add media from the left toolbar and select Video..

  2. Add a video by selecting one from Assets, uploading a file from your system, or inserting a YouTube or Vimeo link.

  3. Preview the slide to confirm the video displays correctly and that both audio and playback function as expected.

  4. Select the ellipsis   and choose a new video from Assets, the web, or your system to replace the existing one.

Add audio and narration

Audio is an effective way to make imported PowerPoint slides more engaging. In Adobe Captivate, you can use audio for narration, feedback, and sound effects to guide learners through the content. Both MP3 and WAV formats are supported, whether the audio is applied at the slide level or directly to individual objects.
