Issue: Photoshop Elements slows down or freezes when you are using its tools

If you are facing issues with Photoshop Elements slowing down or freezing while using various tools, use these troubleshooting tips to solve the error.

Solution 1: Let Photoshop Elements Editor idle

  • Leave Editor idle for one hour or so. If Photoshop Elements Editor keeps freezing while using tools, try leaving it idle for an hour to check if it resolves the error.

Solution 2: Network printers

  • Remove Network Printers from Control Panel. If you have network printers connected to your computer, change your default printer to a local printer. Basic steps to add or remove a printer are available here.

Solution 3: Stop the Synergy service

The Synergy service may interrupt with the movement of the mouse in Photoshop Elements Editor. Do one of the following:

  • Mac OS
    1. Go to Applications > Utilities, and double-click Activity Monitor.
    2. In Activity Monitor, close the Synergy service process.
  •  Windows
    1. Open the Start Menu and choose Run.
    2. In the box that appears, type services.msc, and click OK.
    3. Right-click Synergy service, and choose Stop.

Solution 4: Disable the Rapport service

If you have Trusteer Endpoint Protection installed on your machine and are observing freezing problems, try disabling the Rapport Service.

  1. Go to Windows Start Menu.

Note: Using Task Manager to stop the Rapport service does not solve this issue, because this service gets automatically restarted in the background.

  2. Choose Trusteer Rapport > Rapport Console, and then choose Stop.
