Change the duration of a clip

Last updated on Sep 30, 2025

Adjust the playback speed to make your clip shorter or longer in Premiere on iPhone.

You can change the duration of a clip by adjusting its speed. Slowing down a clip extends its duration for dramatic effect, while speeding it up shortens the clip to fit more action in less time.

Open your project and tap the clip you want to adjust in the timeline.

In the bottom toolbar, scroll through the options from right to left and tap Speed.

Timeline view with a clip selected and the Speed option highlighted in the bottom toolbar for adjusting playback speed.
Use the Speed option to make your clip play faster for time-lapse or slower for dramatic effect.

Drag the speed slider to set a value between 0.1x (slowest) and 100x (fastest).

As you adjust, the new clip duration appears below the speed bar.

Speed panel open with the duration value highlighted below the speed bar, showing how playback speed affects clip length.
Preview the new duration while adjusting speed to keep your timing on track.

Note

If you want to undo any changes while adjusting the speed, tap the undo icon at the top-left of the Speed control panel.
