Resolve mask updating issues by blurring the background before adjusting sky settings.
When working with Quick Actions in Adobe Lightroom on iOS, the Sky mask may not automatically update after you apply background blur to a photo that already has sky adjustments.
You apply edits to the Sky using Quick Actions, then select the Background option and apply one of the Blur presets (such as Subtle, Strong, or Circle). However, the Sky mask remains unchanged, and the Blur effect may overlap incorrectly with the sky area, resulting in an unnatural appearance where the sky and background boundaries meet.
This issue occurs because of the order in which Quick Actions processes mask updates:
The Sky mask is computed when you first select the Sky option in Quick Actions. When you subsequently apply Background Blur, the system does not automatically recompute the Sky mask boundaries, so the Blur effect uses the original mask rather than adjusting for the new edit. The Sky mask will now be computed after the Background Blur is applied, ensuring proper boundary detection between the sky and background areas.
- Open your photo in the Lightroom app and select Actions.
- Select Background from the Quick Actions options.
- Select one of the Blur presets, such as Subtle, Strong, or Circle.
- Adjust the Blur intensity using the available sliders if needed.
- Select Sky to make your sky adjustments.
- Apply your desired Sky edits using the Exposure, Saturation, or Dehaze sliders.
You can further refine masks created in Quick Actions by navigating to Edit > Masking, where adjustments will override the Quick Actions settings.
