Premiere Elements indicates an error occurred during startup

Error message when launching Premiere Elements

After you have installed the latest version of Premiere Elements, you may see an error message indicating a problem during launch. You will not be able to use features that require Royalty activation like MPEG files import, DVD burn, etc. This error is caused due to permission issues with the Common folder, and is a known issue.

Solution

Try one of the following solutions to resolve the error.

Delete the Common folder

To resolve the permission issues, delete the Common folder that has the bad permissions. Once deleted, on next launch, PRE creates the folder with the right permissions.

You can find the Common folder at the following locations:

Windows
%programdata%\Adobe\Common

Mac
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common

Create the Common folder

If the Common folder is not present on your computer, it might indicate that Premiere Elements was not able to create it with the priveleges with which it is run. Log in to your computer as an administrator and create the folder at the following location:

Windows
%programdata%\Adobe\Common

Mac
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common
