This document provides information on the list of known issues in After Effects.
General known issues
After Effects may crash during startup with an obsolete Intel OpenCL component
Issue: After Effects may crash during startup if Windows has a legacy Intel OpenCL component, igdrcl64.dll version 20.19.15.4531, registered on the system. This can happen even if you use a different graphics card or have since updated your Intel graphics driver.
Workaround: To resolve the issue, remove the obsolete component and its matching OpenCL registry entry using the steps below in the given sequence.
Caution
These instructions are for the obsolete igdrcl64.dll at the exact path and version above. Do not remove other Intel files, other vendors’ OpenCL registrations, or driver packages based only on their names.
Check the DLL version
Find igdrcl64.dll, right-click it, and select Properties.
On the Details tab, confirm that file version is 20.19.15.4531.
Only continue if the filename, location, and version all match. If they don't match, but After Effects is crashing on startup, connect with Adobe Support.
Back up the registry key
Search Windows for Registry Editor and open it as an administrator.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenCL\Vendors.
Right-click Vendors and select Export. Save the backup somewhere you can find it.
Remove only the stale registration
In the Vendors key, find the entry whose name is exactly:
- C:\Windows\System32\igdrcl64.dll
Delete only that entry. Do not delete the Vendors key or any other entries.
If the matching entry isn’t there, stop and contact Adobe support rather than deleting other registry entries.
Remove the matching DLL and restart
Delete C:\Windows\System32\igdrcl64.dll after confirming its version is 20.19.15.4531. You may need administrator permission.
Restart Windows and try launching After Effects again.
If the file can’t be deleted, or Windows restores it, don’t force-delete other Intel or graphics-driver files. If your computer relies on Intel graphics, make sure a compatible graphics driver is installed.
After Effects 26.0 and 26.2 may unexpectedly crash with Compressed Disk Caching enabled
Issue: Compressed Disk Caching is enabled by default in After Effects 2026, but it may be incompatible with certain projects or hardware configurations, leading to unexpected crashes.
Workaround: Disable Compressed Disk Caching by navigating to Preferences > Disk > Disk Cache and unchecking Enable Compressed Frames (Lossless).
After Effects crashes on macOS 14 with AMD GPUs when using Transmit and Draft 3D
Issue: After Effects may crash when running on Mac Intel hardware with an AMD GPU running macOS 14 (Sonoma) when using a Transmit connected device and enabling Draft 3D.
Workaround: Disconnect the Transmit device if Draft 3D is needed, or upgrade to a newer macOS release.
After Effects v24.1 and later versions fail to render in Tractor on Mac
Issue: On macOS Sonoma, Tractor fails to render with After Effects v24.1 and later — even when run from a Terminal window instead of as a service.
Resolution: To avoid render failures in Tractor, either use After Effects v24.0 or earlier, or upgrade to macOS Sequoia (version 15) or later.
After Effects 25.x fails to launch on Windows devices
Issue: After Effects 25.x fails to launch on Windows systems, displaying the error message- "Unable to create AGM Font ("Adobe Clean - Bold") in After Effects."
Resolution: This issue usually arises when After Effects cannot load a specific internal font used by Adobe applications for UI rendering or internal processes. To resolve this, ensure that Untrusted Fonts are not being blocked in your system settings.
Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security.
Select the App & browser control option, and then go to Exploit protection settings.
Select Program settings > Add program to customize > Choose exact file path.
Navigate to Program Files > Adobe > Adobe After Effects > Support Files, and select the AfterFX.exe file.
Scroll down to the Block untrusted fonts section, select Override system settings, check the option off, and select Apply.
Launch After Effects.
Composition panel not rendering on Windows devices
Issue: The Composition panel isn't rendering visual content as expected on Windows devices that have both an Intel Integrated GPU and an NVIDIA card.
Resolution: We'll let you know when a fix is available. In the meantime, you can try the following workaround whenever you encounter this issue:
Close After Effects.
Open the Device Manager by using Win + R and typing devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog.
Expand the Display adapters section and right-click on the Intel UHD Graphics card.
Select Update driver and then choose Browse my computer for drivers.
Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer, and then choose Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
Finish the update wizard until you get the "Windows has successfully updated your drivers" message.
Launch After Effects.
Adobe video applications and macOS Sequoia compatibility issues
Issue: macOS 15 Sequoia asks permission every time before launching any video apps, including Adobe After Effects, Premiere, Media Encoder, Audition, and Character Animator.
Resolution: We'll let you know when a fix is available. Until then, you can try this workaround.

Layer twirl state is not retained for Shape and Camera layers when opening existing projects
Issue: When opening an existing project that was saved in a version prior to 25.2, any Shape or Camera layer in that project may have its twirl state reset to closed.
Workaround: Restore the twirl state manually and re-save the project in the current version of After Effects.
January 2026 Release (Version 26.0)
Substance 3D Material appears offline in the composition when opening certain projects
Issue: When reopening a project that includes a mesh with an applied SBSAR material, the material in the active composition may appear offline and display the default placeholder (color bars). However, the SBSAR file in the Project panel does not show as offline, even though the material preview in the composition fails to load.
Workaround: Right-click the SBSAR in the Project panel, then select Reload Footage.
