Creative Suite 5 and CS5.5 products require Microsoft Visual Studio runtimes. The following errors indicate that MS Visual Studio runtimes couldn't install. (The errors appear in the Summary section of the main CS5 or CS5.5 installation log file.) For information on locating the Summary section of your log file, see Troubleshoot CS5 and CS5.5 installation with install logs (cpsid_84451).

Solution
1. Run the Microsoft VS installer to determine the error message.
Running the Microsoft Visual Studio runtime installer reproduces the installation failure. Use the steps below to determine the error message and resolve the installation failure.
-
Locate your Creative Suite 5 or CS5.5 installation media and navigate to the payloads folder. For example, D:\Adobe Master Collection CS5\Adobe CS5\payloads.
-
Open any payloads subfolders whose names start Microsoft_VC.
Important: Open a folder ending in x86 on a 32-bit operating system and a folder ending in x64 on a 64-bit operating system. For example, Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86 (on a 32-bit operating system) or Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86_x64 (on a 64-bit operating system.) -
Double-click the Windows installer package to install the Visual Studio runtime.
-
Search the Adobe Knowledgebase for any error messages that are produced during the installation.
- If you are getting an error such as, "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed...," proceed to Repair the Microsoft Windows Installer.
- If you are getting an error such as, "Error 1402: Could not open key..." or any 1400-series error message, see, Error 1401, 1402, 1404, or 1406 | Install | CS4, CS5 | Windows (kb404622).
- If the installer freezes or you are not getting an error, proceed to Repair the Microsoft Windows Installer.
-
Verify that the Microsoft Visual installer can proceed without and error by completing steps 1 - 4 until no errors occur.
-
If no errors occur running the Microsoft Visual Studio installer, reinstall Creative Suite 5 or CS5.5.
2. Repair the Microsoft Windows Installer.
-
Repair the Windows Installer.
- Windows XP/Vista: Download the newest Microsoft Windows Installer Redistributable pack.
- Windows 7:
-
Click Start, type sfc /SCANNOW in the search field, and press Enter.
-
Click Start, type msiexec /unreg in the search field, and press Enter.
-
Click Start, type msiexec /regserver in the search field, and press Enter.
-
After the process completes, try the Microsoft Visual Studio Runtime installer again. See Run the Microsoft VS installer to determine the error message.
-
If the installation completes successfully, proceed with the Creative Suite 5 or CS5.5 product installation.
