Learn more about the key features and types of PDF forms you can create and work with using Adobe Acrobat.
PDF forms are digital documents that allow you to enter information directly into designated fields. Compared to standard PDFs, primarily for viewing, PDF forms facilitate data collection through interactive elements like text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, and dropdown menus. These forms can be accessed over the web or via email.
Types of PDF forms
There are two main types of PDF forms:
- Interactive forms: These forms contain fields that you can select and fill in digitally. The fields are pre-defined and easily identifiable, making data entry straightforward.
- Flat forms: These are scanned paper forms or PDFs that don’t have interactive fields for filling in the information.
Key features of PDF forms
Use the Fill & Sign tool in Acrobat to create, fill in the information, sign, and share PDF forms electronically. This tool offers the following features for working with PDF forms:
- Field recognition: Automatically detect and convert static form fields within scanned documents into interactive, fillable text fields.
- Dynamic fields: Add interactive buttons and e-signature fields, and insert form elements to collect more information.
- Distribution and response tracking: Share PDF forms via email or direct links, monitor responses, and issue reminders to recipients.
- Interactive functionality: Use JavaScript to enhance PDF form interactivity, including complex calculations, data validations, and assigned action buttons.
