Learn how to use menu commands or styles to convert text between uppercase, lowercase, title case, and sentence case in Adobe InDesign.

Change text capitalization with menu commands, panels, or paragraph styles. InDesign can change selected text to small caps, using the font’s built-in small caps when available or synthesizing them from scaled capital letters.

Change case using Type menu

Select the text using the Type tool.

Select Type > Change Case.

Select one of the following:

UPPERCASE: Convert all characters to uppercase.
lowercase: Convert all characters to lowercase.
Title Case: Capitalize the first letter of each word.
Sentence case: Capitalize the first letter of each sentence.

Poznámka

Sentence case treats periods (.), exclamation points (!), and question marks (?) as sentence endings. This may lead to unexpected results in abbreviations, file names, or URLs. Also, proper nouns may require manual correction after applying Sentence case.

Apply all caps or small caps

Select the text using the Type tool.

Select Type > Character.

Select the Character panel menu icon and select one of the following:

All Caps: Display all characters as uppercase.
Small Caps: Display lowercase characters as smaller uppercase letters.

Apply lowercase from the Properties or Control panel

Select the text using the Type tool.

Select the Character Styles tab in the Properties panel (Window > Properties).

Select the More Options icon.

Select the Lowercase icon to convert all characters to lowercase.

Specify the size for small caps

Select the text using the Type tool.

Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced Type (Windows) or InDesign > Preferences > Advanced Type (macOS).

Enter a percentage of the original font size in the Small Cap field.

Select OK.

Change case using Paragraph Styles

Select Type > Paragraph Styles.

Select the Paragraph Styles panel menu icon.

Select Style Options and then select Basic Character Formats.

Select one of the options from the Case dropdown: Normal, Small Caps, All Caps, OpenType All Small Caps, or Lowercase.
