Learn how to fix printer related issues after a crash.

Set a default printer (Windows)

Ensure that you always have a default printer installed and set up on your system. Illustrator can crash if the printer is out of ink, or there are errors with network printer queues. Set up Adobe PDF as your default printer in case you don't have a printer available. 

Set up a default printer

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select Adobe PDF and click Manage. Unable to find the PDF printer? Choose any printer such as Microsoft XPS or send it to OneNote.
  3. Click Set As Default and ensure that the Let Windows Manage My Default Printer option is disabled.  

 If you run into any printer issues on Windows, you can install the patch provided by Microsoft to resolve these issues. For more details, see Windows Support documentation.
