Problem
Reader in Sandbox mode can’t read/write to registry after Outlook 365 MAPI gets loaded using SendMail – open a file in Reader and then go to File > Send File > Attach to Email. And thus, any changes to preferences are not retained.
Solution
You can manually tweak the registry as a workaround. Follow the steps below. Before you do this, read the possible side effects it may have on Acrobat Reader.
Possible side effects:
- Acrobat Reader may hang.
- After closing the draft mail window, you may not be able to open another PDF by double-clicking it.
Steps to tweak the registry:

Based on your installed version of product and release, navigate to the location and then create the key under FeatureState at the location listed below; the key is not present by default.
For Acrobat Reader (Continuous):
- Key: 4163520
- Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Reader\DC\FeatureState
For Acrobat Reader (Classic 2015):
- Key: 4163520
- Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Reader\2015\FeatureState

Change the value of the key to "1".

Restart Acrobat Reader.
