Last updated on Sep 3, 2025

Learn how to turn on auto-update and automatically update your Creative Cloud apps.

Note

If you're installing the Creative Cloud desktop app for the first time, your apps are set to update automatically by default.

In the Apps tab, select More actions  in the Installed apps panel, and then select Enable auto-updates.

The Apps tab of the Creative Cloud desktop app shows the apps that you can download and the options to enable auto-updates and check for updates on the right panel.
Selecting Enable auto-updates opens the Preferences window.

Note

If you've already turned on auto-updates, you'll see Manage auto-updates. Select it to continue.

Do one of the following to set automatic updates:

  • All apps: To set automatic updates for all apps, turn on Auto-update.
  • Specific apps: To set automatic updates for specific apps, turn on Auto-update, and then set the toggle as needed for each individual app.
The Auto-update section in the Apps tab shows all the installed apps, with options to enable or disable auto-updates for each app and view Advanced options.
Select Auto-update to stay current with all Creative Cloud developments.

Select Advanced options to set auto-update settings:

  • Import previous settings and preferences: Check the box to retain the previous settings and preferences for the updated apps.
  • Remove older versions: Check the box to uninstall the previous versions and save your hard disk space.
The Advanced Options for the Creative Cloud apps show the auto-update settings for the app, which include importing previous settings and preferences and removing older versions.
Advanced options are available only when you turn on auto-updates.

Select Done.
Your apps now update automatically when a new update is available, and when you are not using the apps.
