Issue

Contribute CS5 crashes or freezes on startup (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/761746?tstart=0).

Solution

An update has been posted that addresses this issue. To get the update, follow the step based on the scenario.

Scenario 1: Other CS5 apps with CS Live services are installed.

  1. To sign in to CS Live, launch a product on with CS Live services such as Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, or Illustrator.
  2. Sign in to CS Live service. Wait for couple of minutes. The update is downloaded in the background.
  3. To verify that the update is downloaded, check whether the folder “ConnectionsHomeOMBackend” contains the folder - “2.5.1.20110506_v2_5_1_120." Use the information below to locate the ConnectionsHomeOMBackend folder on your computer.

    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user> \Application Data\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager\extensions\ ConnectionsHomeOMBackend
    • Windows 7 and Windows Vista: C:\users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager\extensions\ ConnectionsHomeOMBackend
    • Mac OS: Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5ServiceManager/extensions/ ConnectionsHomeOMBackend
  1. If the folder is still not available, do the following:
    1. Sign out of CS Live and close the application.
    2. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3.
  2. Launch Contribute CS5.

Scenario 2: Only Contribute CS5 is installed (no other CS5 applications are installed).

  • Check whether the folder “ConnectionsHomeOMBackend” contains the folder - “2.5.1.20110506_v2_5_1_120." Use the information below to locate the ConnectionsHomeOMBackend folder on your computer.

    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user> \Application Data\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager\extensions\ ConnectionsHomeOMBackend
    • Windows 7 and Windows Vista: C:\users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CS5ServiceManager\extensions\ ConnectionsHomeOMBackend
    • Mac OS: Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5ServiceManager/extensions/ ConnectionsHomeOMBackend
  1. If the folder 2.5.1.20110506_v2_5_1_120 is not present, delete the ConnectionsHomeOMBackend folder.

Note: Stop the CS5 Service Manager process using the Task Manager or Activity Monitor before performing this step.
  2. Launch Contribute CS5.

Note: The folder ConnectionsHomeOMBackend is created only when you have signed into CS Live Services from other CS5 applications. The folder exists even after you uninstall the other applications.
