When using the in-app camera in Adobe Lightroom on iOS, the Show Highlight Clipping overlay may fail to display over-exposed areas in the live capture view, even when the feature is enabled.
After tapping Highlight Clipping in the in-app camera options, the red overlay that normally indicates over-exposed areas does not appear on the live capture screen. The icon may appear active, but no visual feedback is provided to help identify blown highlights before the shot is captured.
Adobe is aware of this issue and is working on a fix for an upcoming release. In the meantime, you can use the following approaches to manage exposure when capturing photos:
The Highlight Clipping overlay feature is currently experiencing a known software issue that prevents it from displaying correctly during live capture in the iOS version of Lightroom on mobile. After reviewing, you can recapture the scene with adjusted exposure compensation if needed. This post-capture review method lets you identify and correct overexposed areas, though it requires an additional step compared to the live preview overlay.
- Capture your photo using the in-app camera as you normally would.
- Review the captured image immediately in the Lightroom grid view.
- Select the image to open it in the Detail view.
- Navigate to Edit > Light.
- Check the histogram in the Light panel for clipped highlights (values pushed to the far right).
- If highlights are clipped, adjust the Exposure or Highlights slider to recover detail.
Your version of Lightroom on mobile may not include the latest bug fixes and feature improvements. Check the Lightroom release notes to view if the issue has been resolved in the latest version. Adobe regularly releases updates that address known issues and improve camera functionality.
- Open the App Store on your iOS device.
- Select your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Scroll down to find Lightroom in your list of apps.
- If an update is available, select Update.
- After updating, launch Lightroom and test the Highlight Clipping feature again.
