Remove objects with Generative Remove
Learn how to use AI to eliminate unwanted elements and complex objects from your photos.
Generative Remove uses Adobe Firefly Generative AI to remove distractions like road signs, power lines, and other unwanted objects from complex backgrounds. The tool analyzes your photo and automatically generates realistic fill content that blends seamlessly with the surrounding area. Generative Remove requires an internet connection and is available as a premium feature in Adobe Lightroom on mobile.
Ensure the Generative AI toggle is enabled.
Select the Image quality icon to set the resolution for Generative AI tools, and then select OK.
- Select Work fast with reduced resolution for quicker performance and smaller file size.
- Select Work with higher resolution for better output.
Adjust the Brush Size slider to match your brush diameter to the area you want to remove.
Brush over the object you want to remove from your photo.
For better accuracy, roughly scribble over the entire object to help the Detect objects feature identify and select it completely.
To improve the results, select Refine, select either of the following options, and then select Done to save Refine remove changes:
- Generative AI: Fills removed areas with AI-generated content.
- Refresh: Fills the area with a different source of content if the initial result doesn't match well.
- Variations: Displays three different AI-generated removal options.
- Opacity: Controls the opacity of the adjustments applied to the target area.
- Restore: Undo the removal.
In the Refine remove panel, you can access Variations when the Generative AI toggle is on, and Refresh when it’s off.
