Issue

When you install Adobe Creative Suite 4 products, the More Info dialog displays the following error message:

"Error 1714. The older version of Adobe Flash Player 9 Plugin cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." The error appears in the More Info dialog as follows:

1: 0 2: Install Flash Player 8 Plugin.msi 3: {91057632-CA70-413C-B628-2D3CDBBB906B} 4: {91057632-CA70-413C-B628-2D3CDBBB906B}; 5: 0 6: 1 7: 1 8: 0 Error 1714.The older version of Adobe Flash Player 9 Plugin cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.

Note: The product code after the 3: can vary depending on the version of Adobe Flash Player that cannot be removed.  Investigate the installation log file to determine the version of Flash Player.  The steps below address the most common version of Flash Player.

Solution

Do one or more of the following:

Solution 1: Use the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller to remove previous versions of Flash Player.

  1. Follow the instructions in How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control (tn14157) to download and run the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller.

  2. Run the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Product installation again.

Solution 2: Manually remove the Flash Player product code that is preventing the installation.

Important:  The steps below assist you in manually deleting the most common installer entries that cause this error message.  The key reference is for Adobe Flash Player.

The Administrators group listed below is the default local administrative group for Windows XP and Vista.

On Windows XP

  1. Choose Start > Run, type regedit in the Open text field of the Run dialog box, then click OK.
  2. Back up your current Registry file:
    1. In the Registry Editor dialog box, choose File > Export.
    2. Type a name for the file and choose the location.
    3. For Export Range, choose All.
    4. Click Save.
  3. Navigate to each parent key referenced below and delete the keys matching {91057632-CA70-413C-B628-2D3CDBBB906B}:
    • 32-bit Windows
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    • 64-bit Windows
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
  4. Attempt to install again.

On Windows Vista/7

Important:
 Accept any User Account Control messages that appear.

  1. Choose Start, type regedit in the Search text field, and then press Enter.
  2. Back up your current Registry file:
    1. In the Registry Editor dialog box, choose File > Export.
    2. Type a name for the file and choose the location.
    3. For Export Range, choose All.
    4. Click Save.
  3. Navigate to each parent key referenced below and delete the keys matching {91057632-CA70-413C-B628-2D3CDBBB906B}:
    • 32-bit Windows

      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    • 64-bit Windows
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
  4. Attempt to install again.

Additional information

The Adobe Creative Suite 4 attempts to install Flash Player 10 during the installation process. If a previous version of Flash Player is detected, then the installer automatically upgrades the version of Flash Player. The error message is generated if the installer is unable to uninstall a previous version of Adobe Flash Player.
