Purpose of resetting preferences
Also known as trashing preferences, this process restores Premiere Pro to its original default settings. It helps resolve issues caused by corrupted or conflicting configurations and is recommended when the software isn’t functioning as expected.
Impact of resetting preferences
When you reset preferences, most of your customizations will be removed. These include:
- Length of your default transitions
- Brightness of the user interface
- Label colors
- Audio hardware settings
- Workspace changes, such as resized or repositioned panels
Scratch disk settings and project files
Resetting preferences does not change your scratch disk settings. These settings are saved in each project file, so when you open a project, Premiere Pro uses the same scratch disk setup that was selected when the project was created.
