Learn how to use Light panel sliders to control brightness and tonal range in your images.

The Light panel gives you precise control over brightness and tonal range in your photos. Use these adjustments to correct exposure, recover detail in highlights and shadows, or create dramatic lighting effects. The Light panel is available for both photos and videos in Adobe Lightroom on mobile.

Select a photo to open it in Detail view.

Select Edit > Light .

Drag the following slider to adjust the settings:

Exposure: Controls the overall brightness of your photo. Move the slider left to darken the photo or right to brighten it.
Contrast: Adjusts the difference between light and dark areas. Move the slider left to reduce contrast and right to enhance it.
Highlights: Controls the brightness of the lighter areas in your photo. Move the slider left to darken highlights and recover details, or right to brighten highlights and reduce detail.
Shadows: Adjusts the brightness of the darker areas in your photo. Move the slider left to deepen shadows or right to lighten them and reveal details.
Whites: Sets the white point of the photo. Move the slider right to make more colors appear completely white.
Blacks: Sets the black point of the photo. Move the slider left to make more colors appear completely black.

After adjusting the sliders, your changes apply immediately. Select with two fingers on the photo to view the histogram and see how your adjustments affect the tonal distribution.

For advanced tonal control, use the Point Curve option in the Light panel. The curve graph represents the tonal range of your photo, and you can select to add control points or drag existing points to fine-tune specific tonal areas.

After adjusting the sliders, your changes apply immediately. Toggle on Edit in HDR Mode to view the histogram and see how your adjustments affect the tonal distribution. The HDR section in the histogram will be colored red if the device isn't compatible with HDR. Select the Info icon to view details.
