Enable HDR editing mode

After enabling HDR mode, you can adjust exposure, highlights, shadows, and other tone controls with real-time visualization of HDR levels. The HDR histogram appears at the top-right corner of the screen, showing the distribution of tones from the darkest shadows to the brightest highlights. If your photo doesn't contain HDR data, the HDR portion of the histogram remains hidden.

To enable HDR editing by default for all new photos, select the More menu, select App settings > Import, then turn on the HDR edit mode for new photos toggle under HDR Edit Setting.

View HDR range visualization

The Visualize HDR toggle displays a color-coded overlay showing different HDR brightness ranges in f-stop increments. This helps you identify which areas of your photo are using extended HDR range beyond standard dynamic range.

Color space options

Lightroom on iOS supports three HDR color spaces during editing and export: HDR sRGB (Rec. 709), HDR P3, and HDR Rec. 2020. These are HDR-enabled versions of standard color spaces, with HDR sRGB offering the smallest color gamut and HDR Rec. 2020 the largest. The app automatically manages color space handling during editing and export.

This workflow applies to HDR photos you’ve imported or captured in Lightroom on Android on supported devices.

Lightroom on Android currently supports HDR capture and editing on all variants of Google Pixel 7, Google Pixel 8, Google Pixel 9, and Google Pixel Fold devices running Android 14 and later, or other devices with a minimum of 3 GB RAM, Android 14.0 or later, ARM8, and DNG capture support. To verify the device’s compatibility, select Settings > About device.

Enable HDR editing mode

Once HDR mode is enabled, the histogram displays the distribution of tones across both SDR and HDR ranges, with the SDR section representing standard tones and the HDR section showing extended brightness in highlights. The RGB curves indicate color distribution, and the separation between SDR and HDR helps identify how much of your image uses a high dynamic range.

Color space options

Lightroom on Android currently supports three color spaces while editing, opening, or saving a photo in HDR:

• HDR sRGB (Rec. 709)
• HDR P3
• HDR Rec. 2020

These are HDR-enabled versions of the existing sRGB, Display P3, and Rec. 2020 color spaces. sRGB has the smallest color gamut, and Rec. 2020 has the largest.
