Learn how to use the Split tool to cut clips precisely at the desired point in the Firefly video editor's timeline.

The Split tool lets you cut clips, remove unwanted sections, improve pacing, rearrange scenes, apply effects to specific segments, and sync audio with visuals. It also gives you the flexibility to move, duplicate, or delete sections individually, making your editing workflow more efficient and giving you full creative control.

The snip tool is highlighted and there are video, image, and text layers in the timeline. There are multiple splits in each of those layers.

Before you begin:

Create a new project, and if you have any media files, add them to the timeline.

Identify the point in the timeline where you want to make the split. Use the Zoom in   function to magnify the timeline for more precise editing.

Select the Split tool above the timeline. The cursor changes to a split   one,

Move the cursor along the timeline to use the skimmer for previewing frames. When you find the exact point to split, select it to create the split.
