Learn how to divide objects or split them into editable grids.
Divide objects
The Divide Objects Below command works like a cookie cutter or stencil. It uses a selected object to cut through other objects and then discards the original cutter. To divide the objects, follow the steps:
Position the cutter object so it overlaps the objects to divide.
Select Object > Path > Divide Objects Below.
Split objects into grids
The Split Into Grid command divides one or more objects into multiple rectangular objects arranged in rows and columns. You can precisely control the height, width, and gutter size between rows and columns, and quickly create guides for laying out artwork. To split objects into grids, follow the steps:
Select the object. If you select more than one object, the resulting grid of objects adopts the appearance attributes of the topmost object.
Select Object > Path > Split Into Grid.
Enter the number of rows and columns.
Customize any of the following:
- To set the size of each row and column, enter values for Height and Width.
- To set the space separating rows and columns, enter values for Gutter.
- To change the dimensions of the entire grid of objects, enter values for Total.
- To add guides along the row and column edges, select Add Guides.
Select Preview if you want to see the preview of your artwork.
Select OK.
