Domain Enforcement Guide for Educational Entities

Last updated on Aug 3, 2026

Preventing new personal accounts from being created with school/district email domains and managing those that already exist.

Note

Personal accounts are those created by a user who did not have a federated account or select Create Account on the Adobe sign-in screens. These accounts are individual and managed by the user. They can change the email address and reset the password on these accounts. These accounts require the user to be 13 years of age or older. Personal accounts can be created using a domain that has been claimed in an Adobe federated directory, provided domain enforcement is not enabled.

Phase 1: Preventing the creation of new personal accounts.

Note

Teachers and students wanting to purchase Adobe Creative Cloud for personal use.

Domain enforcement will prevent users from creating a personal account with your organizations domain; they can still validate their student or teacher eligibility for a discounted Creative Cloud membership by creating an account with a non-school domain. Student or Teacher eligibility criteria

Overview

Prevent any new accounts from being created as Adobe IDs to allow your full ownership in Adobe of any accounts created with your organization.

Enabling Domain Enforcement will not affect any existing accounts or prevent staff or student sign-ins. There will be no downtime for users or systems.

Navigate to your Adobe Admin Console

Go to Settings, select any active directory with domains claimed, then Domain Enforcement from the center set of Tabs.

Turn the toggle on. Below, see Domain Enforcement in the “off” position.

Phase 2: Managing existing personal accounts

Requiring Email Change

To manage existing Adobe ID (personal) accounts, you can turn on the “Require email change” option. When the email change feature is enabled, an Adobe ID user has 30 days from the first sign-in attempt to change their email address. After 30 days, they must change their email address to access their account and data.

When this feature is turned on, users will need to download assets that they want to have in their district or school account and re-upload them, or lose access to those assets for educational purposes. This might include classroom projects, teacher-created worksheets, or anything else used for school.

If students don’t have another email address to which to change their email address, they can delete their account by following the steps here.

Check Admin Account Status

Make sure your administrators and IT leaders all have their federated accounts listed in the Administrators section of the Users tab. Find the instructions add an administrator in the “Add an admin” section here.
