Education Deployment Key licensing Concepts

This guide is designed to help IT administrators understand the different license types available for Education.

K-12 (Primary and Secondary)

All K-12 licenses are Enterprise and support SSO.

Higher Education

HED Licenses can be either Enterprise or Teams. 
Not Teams licenses do not support SSO and other enterprise features.

Education Contract types

Educational institutions are either a Value Incentive Plan (VIP) or an Enterprise Term License Agreement (ETLA). VIP Terms and Conditions are standard https://www.adobe.com/howtobuy/buying-programs/vip-terms.html, ETLA Terms and conditions are customized to each contract.

Teams and Enterprise

Teams Licenses do not permit creating a Federated or Enterprise directory or assigning users licenses with Federated or Enterprise IDs.

Enterprise Licenses Support Enterprise and Federated Directories with the ability to assign licenses to these user types.

Licenses purchased as part of an ETLA agreement are Enterprise Licenses,

licenses purchased through a VIP (Reseller) can be Teams or Enterprise.

License Types

Named user Licenses

These licenses require each user to be assigned a license; licenses can be assigned individually, via a group membership, URL request or via a rule at login. The name user license enables access to the Mobile and Web versions of the application and includes the advantage of installing the application on their own device at home.

Shared Device Licenses

These licenses are attached to the device. The user must sign in to their Adobe Account. As the licenses are device-based, the user must authenticate with a user license to access services such as Firefly and fonts.

Purchasing Additional Licenses

For customers on a VIP agreement, you can see your current Adobe Reseller by visiting 
Adobe Admin Console > Account

To change the reseller, identify a new reseller and share the VIP number; the reseller will provide a security code to complete the change.
Change reseller process

For customers with Adobe Express for K-12 as the reseller to be able to purchase the paid licenses Creative Cloud All K-12 licenses. A reseller change is necessary using the above steps.
