With the master page open in Design view, drag the Top of the Page guide and the Header guide to 40 pixels from the top of the page.

Set header, footer, and content area using guides
A master page includes five movable, horizontal guides. The top and bottom guides determine the overall page size. The middle two guides define the main part of the page content—the area between the lower edge of the header and the top edge of the footer area.

If you need to turn these guides on or off, you can right-click in the gray area to the right side of the page and choose Show/Hide Guides and Show/Hide Header and Footer. Alternatively, you can use the View options menu in the Control panel at the top of the workspace to choose Show/Hide Guides and Show/Hide Header and Footer. These settings act like a toggle switch; if the guides are currently displayed, the options enable you to hide them. If the guides are currently hidden, you can choose the option to show them again.
Follow the steps below to set up guides and define page regions.

Drag the Bottom of the Page guide and the Footer guide to 650 pixels and then drag the Bottom of the Browser guide down to 900 pixels. In addition to the five guides that define the top of the page, header, footer, bottom of the page and bottom of the browser, you can use ruler guides to align objects on the page. Ruler guides help you align the elements in your page designs.
Align elements on a page using ruler guides
Ruler guides are helpful when you want to align page elements in a design. You can choose whether to show or hide the guides as you work.
To control the visibility of the guides, do one of the following:

Choose View > Show Guides.
Or
Right-click on the gray area outside the page design and choose Show Guides from the context menu that appears.
Both menu options act like a toggle switch; when guides are shown you can hide them and vice versa.
Choose Show Guides from the View Menu or context menu to display them while you are designing a page. -
To work with the ruler guides, you also have to show the rulers. To enable the rulers, choose View > Show Rulers.

Follow these steps to work with ruler guides:
- Click an area on the ruler and drag out guides. You can drag out horizontal guides from the top ruler or vertical guides from left side ruler. Or, if you prefer, double-click on tick mark in a ruler to set a guide to a precise measurement.
- To reposition a guide, select a guide in the gray area beside the page. Click and drag the guides to reposition them individually. You can also click-drag a marquee in the gray area to select multiple guides at once.
- Once multiple guides are selected, you can drag them as a group to relocate on the page.
- While a group of guides are selected, you can also scale the guide set together proportionately.
- Test how guides work by using the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle shape. You can use the Selection tool to drag the rectangle to align with ruler guides. If enabled, Smart Guides appear and snap to the ruler guides—as well as to page elements.
When you click-drag a marquee across the page, page elements get selected, not the ruler guides. When you click-drag the gray area outside the page, you can select multiple ruler guides. You can also press and hold the Shift key while selecting ruler guides to select a set of guides.
As you drag an object, Smart Guides appear temporarily to help you align it in relationship with ruler guides. -
To duplicate a guide, press and hold Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) and drag a guide. Notice that while the Option key (or Alt key) is pressed, the duplicate cursor icon displays. This double arrow cursor indicates you are about to duplicate a ruler guide.

To access the context menu to control ruler guides, right-click on a ruler. You can access helpful settings, such as locking the guides in place.
If you want to remove the guides entirely, place your cursor over the ruler and right-click it. In the context menu, choose Unlock Guides and then choose Delete Guides to delete them.
