Change aspect ratio of the timeline

Learn how to set the aspect ratio for the timeline or change it while editing a video.

When you add a media file to start a new video editing project, Firefly prompts you to name the project and choose how to set the Timeline aspect ratio. You can either manually select a predefined aspect ratio or use the Automatic option to automatically fit the footage being imported.

The New project dialog box is open and there are options to add a name to the project and also set aspect ratio for the timeline.

You can also change the timeline's aspect ratio while editing a video, even after media files have already been added to the timeline.

Select the menu   icon at the upper-left corner of the page, then select Timeline > Properties.

The main menu is opened, and from the available options, 'Timeline' is selected followed by 'Properties'.
Launch the Timeline properties panel to change the aspect ratio.

You can also use the Properties   icon when there are no existing timelines in the project to open the Timeline properties panel.

The Timeline properties panel gets enabled. 

Use the Aspect ratio dropdown menu to select one of the presets. 

The Timeline properties panel is open, and the Aspect Ratio dropdown menu is expanded, displaying multiple aspect ratio options to choose from.
Choose from a variety of aspect ratio presets to adjust the timeline's aspect ratio.
