Use the Actions panel

Learn how to use the Actions panel to edit and record actions in Adobe Photoshop on desktop.

Open the Actions panel and apply an action

Select Window > Actions , or the Actions panel flyout menu, to open the Actions panel.

Browse actions in the panel, then select one to apply to the image.

Actions are applied as a single step in the History panel by default, allowing you to undo the entire action at once. This behavior can be turned off for advanced workflows.

Edit an action

Select Window > Actions to open the Actions panel.

Select the gear   icon next to an action to view its steps.

Select a step, or right-click an action and choose Edit Action, to adjust its settings.

Select OK to save the changes.

Record an action

Select Window > Actions to open the Actions panel.

Select the Create new action   icon.

In the New Action dialog, specify:

  • Name: Describe what the action does (optional).
  • Function Key: Assign a keyboard shortcut.
  • Thumbnail icon and color label: Specify a thumbnail icon and add a color label.

Select Record.

Perform the steps you want to record.

Select the Stop icon to stop recording.

Delete an action

Select Window > Actions to open the Actions panel.

Right-click an action or action group and select Delete action.

Select OK.

Create a group

Group related actions to keep them organized and easy to manage. 

Select Window > Actions to open the Actions panel.

Select the Create new group   icon.

Enter a name, then select OK.
