Apply anti-aliasing to a type layer
Use anti-aliasing option to produce smooth-edged type in Photoshop.
Anti-aliasing smooths type edges by partially filling edge pixels, creating a gradual transition between the type and its background. This technique is useful when you need clean, professional-looking text for both print and digital designs.
At small type sizes and low resolutions typical of web graphics, anti-aliasing may render inconsistently. To reduce this issue, deselect the Fractional Width option in the Character panel menu.
Apply anti-aliasing using Character panel
Select the anti-aliasing menu icon in Character panel
Choose an anti-aliasing option from the submenu.
Apply anti-aliasing using the Layer menu
Select the type layer in the Layers panel.
Select Layer > Type from the menu bar.
Choose an anti-aliasing option from the submenu.
Anti-aliasing option
- None - creates hard, aliased edges.
- Sharp - produces the sharpest anti-aliased edges.
- Crisp - creates sharp edges with slight softening.
- Strong - makes type appear heavier with more pronounced edges.
- Smooth - produces the smoothest, most blended edges.
The anti-aliasing setting applies to the type layer. To use different anti-aliasing methods within the same project, create separate type layers for each setting.
