Issue

Photoshop may crash on a Windows machine if you have Lavasoft Ad-Aware software or Bins utility installed.

  • Lavasoft Ad-Aware software may be installed as a browser extension or as part of another software package such as ManyCam.
  • Bins is installed as a utility.

Diagnosis

You can identify the reason for crash based on the faulting module displayed in the Windows Event Viewer. Follow these steps:

  1. To open the Event Viewer, in the Windows Control Panel, click Administrative Tools and then click Event Viewer. See this Microsoft article for more information.
  2. Expand Windows Logs from the sidebar and click Application.
  3. Find an Application Error that involves Photoshop.
  4. Look in the General pane for information about the Faulting Module Name.
    1. If the Faulting Module Name is LavasoftTcpService64.dll (or something similar) then Lavasoft is causing the crash.
    2. If the Faulting Module Name is libcef.dll then Lavasoft is causing the crash.

Solution

  • Try resetting Winsock: Follow these steps:
    • Close all applications.
    • Choose Start and type cmd to launch the command prompt.
    • Type the following command at the command prompt: netsh Winsock reset
    • Press Enter.
    • Close the command prompt window.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Launch Photoshop CC.
  • Lavasoft: Uninstall or disable Lavasoft software or associated software such as ManyCam. For directions, refer to the Lavasoft website.
  • Bins: Update your version of Bins. To download the latest version, visit Bins website.

Бележка:

If the Event Viewer indicated that the faulting module is LavasoftTcpService64.dll, you could also try deleting that file manually from your computer. Do the following:

  1. Navigate to the location mentioned as the Faulting Module Path in the Event Viewer logs.
  2. Delete the LavasoftTcpService64.dll file.
  3. Close Photoshop and then launch it again.
