Issue: Elements 13 software crashes at launch on Windows 7 computers

When you launch Photoshop Elements 13, Premiere Elements 13, or Elements Organizer 13, the software crashes even before the splash screen appears.

Solution: Install Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Windows 7

The error occurs due to a bug in Microsoft software. For more information, see this article. To prevent Elements software from crashing, install Service Pack 1 for the Windows 7 operating system.

  1. Click the download button and then choose a download appropriate for your version of operating system:

    • Windows 7 (64-bit): windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe
    • Windows 7 (32-bit): windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe
  2. Run the executable file downloaded in the previous step. Confirm the necessary dialogs and actions, and allow the installation the complete.

  3. To verify that Service Pack 1 was installed correctly, click Start, right-click Computer, and click Properties. The Windows edition section must have the mention of Service Pack 1, as displayed in the screenshot below.

  4. Run Photoshop Elements 13, Premiere Elements 13, or Elements Organizer 13.
