Enable private messages to recipients

Communicate directly with individual recipients through private messaging.

Private messages let senders include personalized notes or instructions for each recipient when sending an agreement. This feature helps clarify signing context, reduce confusion, and create a more professional, personalized experience.

Configuration

Availability:

  • Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro: Not Supported
  • Acrobat Sign Solutions: Supported
  • Acrobat Sign for Government: Supported

Configuration scope:

This feature can be configured at the account and group level. Learn more about admin access controls.

Access this feature by navigating the administrator's configuration menu to Send Settings > Agreement creation experiences

When the feature is enabled, senders see the option to include the private message in the Recipient settings.

When the feature is disabled, the option is removed entirely from the interface:

How senders configure the message

When private messages are enabled, the sender sees the option to configure the message in the Recipient settings section of the compose page.

Private messages can be configured individually for each discrete recipient record, but are not required fields.

Recipient groups are configured as one record. The same private message is applied to all members of the group:

How recipients discover the message

The private message is included in the email notification below the general message for the agreement.

Recipients can always view their private message through the agreement Options during the signing experience.
