Embed and unembed images and files

Viimati uuendatud 25. juuni 2026

Embed a linked file to make it part of your Illustrator document, or unembed it to extract the artwork and link it again.

When you embed a linked file, it becomes part of the Illustrator document. The Links panel does not track it for updates.

Märkus

Embedded files increase the size of your Illustrator document because the artwork is stored directly in the file.

Embed a linked file

In the Links panel, select the file you want to embed.

Open the Links panel menu.

Select Embed Image(s).

After embedding, the file appears as Embedded Link in the Links panel.

Select a linked image and use the Links panel menu to embed it in the Illustrator document.

Unembed a file

When you unembed an image, Illustrator extracts it from the document and saves it in a separate PSD or TIFF file, then links the document to that file. You can then use or edit the extracted file outside Illustrator.

In the Links panel, select the file you want to unembed.

Select Unembed, either in the Control panel or from the Links panel menu.

Specify a name and location for the extracted PSD or TIFF file.

To unembed all the selected images into the same folder, select Unembed all selected images to this folder.

Select Unembed.
