The Elements Organizer stores information about your photos and other media files in a database called the catalog. Importing and managing files with the Elements Organizer and saving files from Adobe Premiere Elements or the Photoshop Elements Editor (with the Include In The Organizer option selected) accesses your catalog. If you are unable to open the Elements Organizer or save files from Adobe Premiere Elements or Photoshop Elements Editor, you could have an issue with your catalog. Use the steps below to help resolve errors and other issues that occur if your catalog file or one of its support files is damaged.
Before you begin
To benefit most from this information, perform the tasks below in the order they are listed. After you complete each task, try to re-create the problem.
The tasks below require you to open the Elements Organizer Catalog Manager. To do so, use one of the following methods:
- Open the Elements Organizer, and then choose File > Catalog (Manage Catalogs in Elements Organizer 11).
- Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard as you launch the Elements Organizer. Release the Shift key when the Catalog Manager window appears.
Optimize your catalog
To reduce the amount of space that your catalog uses and improve its performance, use the Optimize function of Catalog Manager. Optimizing a catalog also corrects thumbnail issues in Elements Organizer.

Select File > Manage Catalogs. The Catalog Manager dialog box opens.

In the Catalog Manager dialog box, select the catalog that you want to optimize.

Click Optimize.
Select a catalog and click Optimize to optimize the catalog. Select a catalog and click Optimize to optimize the catalog.
This process takes time, especially if you have a large catalog. A dialog notifies you when your catalog and its thumbnail cache are optimized. Click OK to close this dialog.
Repair your catalog
At times, such as after a power failure, your catalog file can be damaged. To repair this damage, use the Repair function of Catalog Manager.

Ensure that Adobe Premiere Elements and the Photoshop Elements Editor are closed.

Select File > Manage Catalogs. The Catalog Manager dialog box opens.

In the Catalog Manager dialog box, select the catalog that you want to repair.

Click Repair.
Select a catalog and click Repair to repair catalog issues. Select a catalog and click Repair to repair catalog issues. -
After Elements Organizer completes the check for errors, select Re-index Visual Similarity Data and then click Repair Anyway.
This process takes time, especially if you have a large catalog. A dialog box notifies you when your catalog is successfully repaired. Click OK to close this dialog box.
Clear thumbnail cache
If you're unable to view thumbnails of media in your catalog, you can clear the thumbnail cache in Elements Organizer. To clear the thumbnail cache, follow these steps:

Launch Elements Organizer and select Help > System Info.

In the System Info dialog box, under Current Location, note down the location in the Catalog Location field.

Quit Elements Organizer and open the catalog location that you had noted down in the previous step.

Rename 'thumb.5.cache' to 'thumb.5_old.cache' in the catalog folder and relaunch Elements Organizer.
Note:If you're unable to view the thumbnails after relaunching the app, follow the steps given in Optimize your catalog and Repair your catalog.
Restore the most recent backup of your catalog or create a catalog
Occasionally, a catalog becomes damaged in such a way that the Optimize and Repair functions cannot correct the problem.
If you have created a backup of your catalog, restore the most recent backup of your catalog. For instructions, see the Elements Organizer Help.
If you do not have a backup, create a catalog and reimport your photos and other media files.
To create a catalog:

Make sure that Adobe Premiere Elements and the Photoshop Elements Editor are closed.

Select File > Manage Catalogs to open the Catalog Manager.

In the Catalog Manager, click New.
Click New to create a catalog. Click New to create a catalog. -
Type a name for the new catalog and click OK. Elements Organizer then opens with the new, blank catalog.
Enter the name of the catalog that you want to create. Enter the name of the catalog that you want to create.
