Replace unwanted areas using the remove tool
Learn how to brush over areas you want to replace with matching content from other parts of your photo.
Use the Remove tool to replace distractions, blemishes, or unwanted elements in your photos.
By default, the Generative AI toggle is enabled, which helps replace selected areas with AI-generated content. Turn it off before using Detect objects.
Brush over the area you want to replace in your photo.
Adjust the Brush Size using the slider to refine your selection.
Select Refine to access additional options.
- Select Refresh to fill the area with a different source of content if the initial result doesn't match well.
- Adjust Opacity to control how strongly the replacement blends with the original.
- Select Restore if you need to undo the selection and start over.
Select the Done icon to save your edits.
For enhanced accuracy, enable Detect objects and scribble over the object you want to remove. Lightroom will automatically identify and select the complete object before replacing it.
Open the photo in detail view and select Remove from the Edit panel.
Adjust the Size slider to match your brush diameter to the area you want to remove.

To improve the results, select Refine, select either of the following options, and then select Done to save Refine remove changes:
- Refresh: Fills the area with a different source of content if the initial result doesn't match well.
- Opacity: Controls the opacity of the adjustments applied to the target area.
- Restore: Undo the removal.
In the Refine remove panel, you can access Variations when the Generative AI toggle is on, and Refresh when it’s off.
Select the Done icon to save your edits.
