Learn how to use transparency knockout groups in Illustrator to control how grouped objects interact with each other visually.
A transparency knockout group prevents objects in a group from blending or showing through each other. This makes it ideal for managing layers in complex artwork with transparency.
This is useful for managing complex artwork, such as logos with overlapping transparent elements. For instance, in a logo with layered letters and gradients, enabling Knockout Group preserves each letter's distinct color and shape by preventing unwanted blending.
Select Windows > Transparency.
Select Show Options from the Transparency panel menu.
Select Knockout Group as needed:
- Enable: Objects in the group don’t show through each other.
- Disable: Transparency effects within the group stay visible.
- Inherit: The group inherits knockout settings from its parent layer or group.
