Unable to open files in the Adobe Express mobile app

Last updated on Oct 27, 2026

AI Assistant on mobile is being rolled out gradually and may not be available to all users yet. Availability, features, and the experience may vary by account and change over time. It isn't available for Enterprise and Education accounts.

If certain files appear greyed out or won't open in the Adobe Express mobile app, they aren't supported yet. Your file isn't lost or damaged and is saved safely and continues to be accessible on desktop. It's greyed out, so nothing gets changed by accident.

In the Adobe Express mobile app, you may run into this when you:

  • See a file greyed out in Your stuff, so you can't select it
  • See a file that you opened on mobile previously but now appears greyed out (for example, after it was edited on desktop)
  • Open or follow a shared link to one of these files, and it won't open
  • See this message: Some file types are not yet supported. Use desktop version of the app to access them. Learn more

Some file types aren't supported in the mobile app yet

The Adobe Express mobile app currently does not support the following file types or features, so they appear greyed out:

  • Videos
  • Presentations
  • Multi-page documents (any file with two or more pages)
  • Photoshop and Illustrator cloud documents (PSDC and AIC files)
  • Legacy Adobe Spark files
  • Brands, libraries, and schedules
  • Commenting
  • Live co-editing

You can continue to open these file types in Adobe Express on desktop app. Navigate to Your stuff > Files or Projects and select the file. It opens with full editing support, so you can pick up right where you left off.

The file opens in the full editor

Some files may open in the previous Adobe Express editor instead of the new mobile editor with the AI Assistant. When that happens, they may not open on every device and can appear greyed out. This includes:

  • A file after it's been edited on desktop may no longer open on your phone
  • A shared link to one of these files
  • Using or remixing a template

If you encounter this, you can open the file or template on desktop.

Good to know:
  • Support is expanding. More file types are being added to the mobile app over time.
  • Signed out? If you use the app without signing in, your files are kept for 24 hours. Sign in to keep them available for as long as you need.
