Adobe XD does not launch and only shows a white screen on Windows 10.

Error details

Unable to launch Adobe XD on Windows 10 build. XD shows only a white screen and does not respond. 

Root cause

This issue occurs if Enabled Value within BlockProtocolElevation in the following Windows registry entry is 1

Registry Hive: HKEY _LOCAL_MACHINE (or)

                         HKEY _CURRENT_USERHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (or)


Registry Path: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations 


  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32.
  2. Search for msvcp140.dll, right-click it, and select Properties.
  3. Select the Security tab and click Edit.
  4. Click Add, type ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and click Check Names.
  5. Click Locations, select the name of your computer, and click OK.
  6. In the Security tab, select ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES, click the Edit button, and grant Read & execute and Read permissions to it.
  7. Click OK and close all the windows.
  8. Follow the steps 2 - 7 for vcruntime140.dll.

  1. Type Device manager in Windows Search.
  2. Disable the internal and external graphics drivers and restart the machine.
  3. Update the disabled drivers and restart the machine again.

  1. Launch Windows registry by typing regedit in Windows Search.
  2. Navigate to the entry BlockProtocolElevation by following the path below, and change the value of Enabled Value  to 0:

Registry Path: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations 

Value Name: BlockProtocolElevation 

Open Event Viewer and check for the following error message and description. 

Error: Exception code: 0xc000027b

Fault offset: 0x00000000000bd598

Faulting process id: 0x251c

Faulting application start time: 0x01d4af56ad394b61

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Adobe.CC.XD_14.0.42.14_x64__adky2gkssdxte\XD CC.exe

If you find twinapi.appcore.dll in the error, follow the steps below to fix the problem: 

  1. Uninstall XD.

  2. Kill all related processes from Task Manager.

  3. Delete temp files by using Run command (Win+r) then %temp%

  4. Delete Adobe XD folder from  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe

  5. Uninstall all Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages.

  6. Check whether you have the latest graphics driver on your system. For more information, see Update drivers in Windows 10

  7. Restart the computer and install Adobe XD.
