View and edit text properties

Learn how to view and edit the properties of a text layer added to the timeline.

When you add text to the timeline, you can customize its properties to achieve the desired look and feel. These properties include font style, size, color, alignment, position, and opacity. You can also apply effects such as shadows or outlines to make the text stand out. Adjusting these settings helps align the text with the overall theme of your video, whether you're adding titles, captions, or credits.

On the video editor page, select the text layer in the timeline to start adjusting its properties.

The Properties panel is enabled and displays the following adjustable properties:

The text layer is selected in the timeline and there are text properties that you can edit. These properties inlcude Position, Scale, Rotate, and more.
Use the Properties panel to adjust text properties such as its position, size, opacity, and more.

  • Text orientation:
    • Flip horizontal: Mirror the image from left to right.
    • Flip vertical: Turn the image upside down, flipping it from top to bottom.
    • Rotate clockwise: Rotate the image 90° clockwise with each click.
    • Align: Snap the image to the center or edges of the frame for precise positioning.
  • Font and style settings:
    • Font family: Choose and set the typeface.
    • Font style: Set the appearance of the text by choosing a font type, such as bold, italic, or regular.
  • Text alignment and formatting:
    • Alignment: Control how the text is aligned within its text box.
    • Text layouts: Define how the text is arranged within its container.
    • Text spacing: Control the spacing between letters and lines.
    • B (Bold): Make the text bold.
    • I (Italic):  Italicize the text.
    • U (Underline): Underline the text
    • Font size: Use the slider to adjust the size of the text.

  • Layout and positioning:
    • Position: Set the text's location.
    • Rotate: Adjusts the angle of the text box.
    • Opacity: Controls the visibility or transparency of the text.
  • Styling and appearance:
    • Fill: Set the text's color.
    • Outline: Add a border and customize its thickness.
    • Background: Add a background color to the text box.
    • Shadow: Apply shadow effects to add depth and emphasis. You can customize the shadow's color and adjust other properties such as blur, angle, and offset.

As you adjust the properties, you can see the changes reflected in the preview.
