Learn about different brushes in Adobe Illustrator that let you stylize the appearance of paths.
In Illustrator, you have different types of brushes that let you achieve various effects:
- Calligraphic Brush: Create strokes that mimic a calligraphy pen, centered along the path. When used with the Blob Brush tool, strokes expand into filled shapes that merge with adjacent or overlapping areas of the same color.
- Scatter Brush: Distribute copies of an object (such as a ladybug or a leaf) along the path.
- Art Brush: Stretch a brush or an object shape evenly along the path.
- Bristle Brush: Create brush strokes that resemble a natural bristle brush.
- Pattern Brush: Create repeating designs made of individual tiles. Pattern brushes can include up to five tiles for the sides, inner corner, outer corner, beginning, and end.
You can apply brush strokes to existing paths or use the Paintbrush tool to draw paths and apply brush strokes simultaneously.
