Issue

When you install Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products the More Info dialog displays the following error, "Error 1605. This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." The following error message will also appear in the installation log:

MsiConfigureProductEx failed with error: 1605

Reason

A shared technology used by the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer is missing information required to complete a repair process. The missing MSI product code is causing the error to occur during installation.

Solution

Solution 1: Uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products.

  1. Choose Start > Control Panel.
  2. Remove the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Product:
    • On Windows XP
      1. Double click Add Or Remove Programs.
      2. Select the CS4 Product and click Change/Remove.
    • On Windows Vista
      1. Double click Features And Programs.
      2. Select the CS4 product and click Uninstall.
  3. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the uninstall.
  4. Reboot the computer.
  5. Reinstall the product.

Solution 2: Run the CS5 Cleaner Tool.

If the Adobe Creative Suite 4 uninstaller is unable to remove the product you can manually remove the product by using the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool.
