Issue
When you use Adobe Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS3, or Illustrator CS3 or CS4, a range of swatches in the Pantone Metallic Coated color book have incorrect color values (Pantone 8320-8323). They view and print as shades of pink, instead of the expected shades of muted green.
Reason
The LAB values for these 4 swatches are incorrect in this particular library.
Solution
Solution 1: Update your PANTONE Metallic Coated swatch library with the newest version.
This issue has been fixed in Photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 and Illustrator CS5. For Illustrator CS4 or one of the CS3 applications, do the following:
-
Download the PANTONE-metallic-coated.acb file (.zip compressed)
-
Decompress the .acb file.
-
Open folder that contains your Adobe application.
-
Open the Presets folder.
-
Open the Color Swatches and/or Color Books folder.
-
Move the existing "PANTONE metallic coated.acb"to another location.
-
Move the updated file into the location you removed the old one from.
Solution 2: Manually recreate the affected swatches.
Create 4 new spot inks named using the correct lab values. Use the Ink Manager (InDesign and Illustrator) to alias the incorrect Pantone swatches to your corrected version. Here are the correct LAB values:
- Pantone 8320 C: 60, -4, 2
- Pantone 8321 C: 60, -12, 12
- Pantone 8322 C: 59, -18, 18
- Pantone 8323 C: 56, -23, 22
