Adobe and Mexico VAT Legislation

Adobe applies Mexican VAT (Value Added Tax) on electronic services (e-services) with downloads or access to images as of 2020. This tax applies to downloadable digital services and products such as Adobe Stock and Adobe Express. This tax applies to both companies and individuals. Currently, tax exemptions are not applicable.

How much VAT do I have to pay?

The standard VAT rate in Mexico is 16% but is subject to change.

How is my VAT calculated?

If you have a subscription to Adobe Stock, then a 16% VAT is charged to 100% cost of the plan. If you have a plan that also includes Adobe Stock, then a 16% VAT is charged to only 70% cost of the plan. No VAT is charged if you don't have an Adobe Stock entitlement linked to your plan.

How do I get my invoice in the CFDI format?

As per article 18-D of LIVA law, Adobe is considered a foreign provider with no Mexican fiscal residence, and, therefore, must issue digital invoices in PDF format only. If you require an invoice in CFDI format, you need to purchase from a reseller.

I have a plan in place. When will I be charged this tax?

You are billed for VAT as part of your invoice.

Note

The tax charge does not affect the base price of your Adobe plan.
