Learn how to add text layers to your video timeline when working with Firefly video editor.

Adding text to the timeline involves creating and positioning elements, such as titles, captions, or labels. Once you've entered the text, it appears as a layer on the timeline. You can move, trim, or stretch this layer just like any other asset, giving you control over how and when the text appears in your video.

Before you begin:

Create a new project, and if you have any media files, add them to the timeline.

On the Video editor page, select the Text   icon to enable the Text panel.

In the Text panel, select the Add text button to add a text box in the preview panel.

In the Video Editor page, the Text icon in the left panel is selected. There is a video in the Your media panel.
Select the Text icon to open the Text panel and start adding text to your video.

You can hover over the border of the text box until the four-way arrow cursor appears. You can use it to drag and reposition the text box, or use the resize handles if you want to adjust its size.

The text added to the preview panel is selected and upon hovering, you have the option to drag and reposition the text box, or use the resize handles if you want to adjust its size.
Hover your cursor over the text box to see available options for moving and resizing it.

Use the Properties panel to change text properties like font, size, color, and alignment.

The Properties panel is open, providing options to set different text styles, adjust alignment, change colors, and more.
Use the Properties panel to quickly customize text style, alignment, color, and more—all in one place.

You can edit, reposition, trim, and perform other edits in the text layer, just like any other clip.

The timeline has a video layer as well as a text layer. The text layer is selected and the extend tool is selected.
Select the Text layer in the panel to reposition it in the timeline.
