After you download a purchased Adobe product on Windows Vista, the installer does not start and you cannot find the downloaded file in the folder where you downloaded it. The Launch button in the Akamai Download Manager window does not do anything.

You downloaded using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 with Protected Mode enabled.

Do one of the solutions below.

Solution 1: Download the installer file using a different browser.

Use a different web browser (such as Mozilla Firefox) to download the installer from the Adobe Store.

Solution 2: Disable Protected Mode in IE7 and then re-download the installer file.

  1. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Deselect the Enable Protected Mode option.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close and restart Internet Explorer.
  6. Log in to the Adobe Store and re-download the installer file.

Warning: Protected Mode can protect your computer from malicious software. You should turn on Protected Mode again after you have completely downloaded your Adobe product.

Solution 3: Locate the installer file in the virtualized folder and run it as an administrator.

When Protected Mode is enabled in Internet Explorer 7, downloaded files are redirected to a secure, virtualized folder. This folder replicates the folder structure on your computer but keeps the files isolated from the rest of your computer to protect it from malicious software.

Note: For the following procedure, you need to know where you downloaded files to. For help, see "Find files downloaded with Akamai Download Manager" (cpsid_56055).

Note: This procedure requires you to locate hidden files and folders and to locate files by their full filenames, including extensions. For help, see "Show hidden files, hidden folders, and all filename extensions in Windows Explorer (Windows XP, Vista)" (kb404880).

  1. Choose Start > Computer.
  2. Navigate to the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows.
  3. Click the Windows Explorer address bar, press the End key, and type

    \Temporary Internet Files
  4. Double-click the virtualized folder.
  5. In the virtualized folder, navigate to the same relative folder where you set the Akamai Download Manager to save your files. For example, if you set the Akamai Download Manager to download files to your desktop, navigate to Virtualized\C\Users\[username]\Desktop.
  6. Right-click the downloaded installer file (for example, PRE4_WWEFGJ.exe) and select Run As Administrator.
