How to make a repeated outline image in Adobe Photoshop.

Add pop art inspiration to your images.

  1. Step 1: Duplicate and isolate.

Drag your image layer on the Create New Layer icon in the Layers panel to make a copy. Choose the Object Selection tool from the toolbar and hover over the figure. When it turns blue, click to make a selection.\

  2. Step 2: Smooth it over.

Choose Select > Modify > Smooth and change the sample radius to 50 pixels. Then, in the Layers panel, click the mask icon to make a vector mask.

  3. Step 3: Start outlining.

Click the fx button in the layers panel and add a Stroke. In the Layer Style window, change the Color, we chose a soft blue (#79BBFD). Next, change the Position to Outside and the Size to 40 pixels.

  4. Step 4: Outline again and again.

Click the plus button to duplicate the original Stroke. Then select the first stroke and change the color and size, we chose pink (#F07A77) and 110 pixels.

Duplicate the second Stroke, select the Stroke below it, and change the color and size. We chose #FFD56E and 200px (the largest stroke should be at the bottom of the list). Then click OK.

  5. Step 5: Make it pop.

Create a new layer then choose the Brush tool and in the top menu change the Smoothing to 100%. Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) to sample the colors of the outlines. Then draw in some expressive lines around the subject.

  6. Showcase your art.

Try out different colors and stroke weights for your own pop art style design that is sure to get noticed.
