Desktop quick start guide | Substance 3D Reviewer

If you already have an Adobe account, you can start reviewing content right away! Follow this link to open Substance 3D Reviewer in your browser.

Note

If you would like to try Reviewer but don’t have any 3D models to upload, a large collection of models is available for download from Substance 3D Assets.

Upload a model

To start your first review, you will need to upload a 3D model to Reviewer. Either use the Select a File prompt to open a file browser, or drag and drop a model onto the Reviewer window.

The upload process consists of several steps, including an optimization step and options to adjust the size and position of the model in the scene. You can learn more about the upload process here.

3D Navigation controls

During the upload process, you will have the opportunity to view your model inside a 3D scene. Whenever a 3D scene is visible in Reviewer, you can navigate with the following controls:

  • Left-click and drag to rotate the camera around the model.
  • Use the scroll wheel to zoom in or out.
  • Right click and drag to pan up, down, left, or right.

Join a review

There are two ways to join a review:

  1. From the Substance 3D Reviewer Home page, select a model to review.
  2. Follow a link to a review that has been shared with you by another Reviewer user.

With either method, a dialogue appears before entering the review where you can select your microphone and choose how to proceed:

  • Return to the Reviewer Home page.
  • Review the model in Solo mode.
  • Join the review.
Note

If no microphones are listed, you may need to give Reviewer permission to access your microphone. You can still join a review without giving Reviewer microphone access, but other users will not be able to hear you.

Join a review

Solo mode allows you to review the model without sharing the 3D space with other users. You will still be able to see comments and pins as other users Review the model, but you won’t be able to interact with other people directly.

Review a model

While in a review, you have access to a collection of communication and review tools to help you collaborate with others:

  • Use the Select tool to reposition the model inside the scene.
  • Use the Laser pointer to call attention to specific areas of the model.
  • Use the Comments panel to leave comments or resolve comments from other reviewers to keep track of discussion points or decisions for later reference.
  • Add Pins to tag specific points on the model for targeted feedback.
