Learn how to use computer audio, manage microphone access, and enable single speaker mode to ensure clear communication and participant engagement.
Audio is key in creating engaging and effective virtual experiences in Adobe Connect. Whether hosting a collaborative team meeting, training session, or large-scale webinar, clear and reliable audio ensures participants stay engaged and connected.
Adobe Connect offers a range of flexible audio solutions designed to meet the diverse needs of users across different environments. Hosts can choose the setup that best fits their session goals and audience preferences, from built-in VoIP for internet-based communication to integrated telephony for traditional phone conferencing.
The following topics are covered in this article:
Types of Audio conferences
Adobe Connect supports the following two types of audio conferences, allowing users to choose the method that best suits their meeting needs:
- Using Computer audio
- Using Telephony audio
Using Computer audio
Adobe Connect uses WebRTC-based computer audio (VoIP) to deliver clear, internet-based communication. Participants connect directly through their device’s microphone and speakers.
How to mute and unmute the microphone
You can mute or unmute your microphone in Adobe Connect with a single click on the microphone icon in the main menu bar. Based on your action, a confirmation message appears:
- Microphone muted when you mute it.
- Microphone unmuted when you turn it back on.
Allow participants with microphone access
When the host enables this option, all meeting attendees are automatically granted microphone rights. This means participants can mute and unmute themselves throughout the session without needing approval. This setting is ideal for meetings that require active verbal engagement from all participants.
Key benefits
- Encourages active participation by allowing everyone to speak without needing host approval.
- Saves time in large team discussions, since participants don’t have to request mic rights individually.
- Supports open dialogue in brainstorming sessions or small group meetings where multiple voices need to be heard.
The host can disable this option anytime to regain full control of the session’s audio.
Allow participants to request microphone access
With this option, the host retains control and can selectively grant microphone rights to specific participants during the session. Instead of having microphone access by default, attendees can raise a request for mic rights, which the host can approve or deny.
Key benefits
- Maintains order and focus by preventing everyone from speaking at once.
- Reduces background noise, since only approved participants get mic access.
- Gives the host flexibility to allow interaction from specific individuals without opening the floor to all attendees.
By default, only hosts and presenters have microphone rights. Participants do not automatically receive microphone access.
Mute all attendees at once
In Adobe Connect, hosts and presenters have the ability to mute all attendees simultaneously. This option is available directly from the Attendees pod and is useful when the session requires a focused presentation or when background noise becomes disruptive. View the Attendees pod for more information.
Allow only one ATTENDEE to use the microphone at a time
To prevent overlapping conversations, hosts can select Single Speaker Mode from the microphone drop-down menu. Once enabled, a message confirms that Single Speaker Mode is enabled.
When an attendee selects the microphone button, it becomes temporarily disabled for others until the current attendee selects it again.
This option is available only when using VoIP for audio and not when using a combination of VoIP and telephony for audio.
Using Telephony audio
Adobe Connect also supports traditional phone-based conferencing, ideal for organizations that require hardline communication for security, compliance, or reliability. Participants can dial into a meeting using a phone number and access code or receive a system-generated call (dial-out) if the audio provider supports it.
