Steps to follow when Adobe Connect installer detects either an existing version or incomplete uninstall of Microsoft SQL Server during installation.

Issue

During the Adobe Connect Server installation process, the installer detects either an existing version or incomplete uninstall of Microsoft SQL Server. This issue occurs when you install the Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) included with Adobe Connect Server and also with Microsoft SQL server.

Note:

If you install a Microsoft SQL server, Adobe recommends that it is installed on a different computer than the Adobe Connect Server.

Solution

After uninstalling Adobe Connect Server, do the following steps.

  1. Make a backup copy of your registry.

  2. Try to locate the following registry keys. If your system has these registry keys, delete the keys.

    • MSDE registry key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft
    • SQL Server Service registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSQLServer
    • Mdf Registry Entry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\.mdf
  3. (Optional) If SQL Server or MSDE is uninstalled, your system can still encounter this issue. To uninstall Microsoft SQL Server or MSDE, Adobe recommends that you see the applicable Microsoft knowledgebase articles here.

Additional information

This issue occurs if the installer detects a complete or partial installation of Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) or Microsoft SQL Server on the system.
