How to turn a sketch into vector art with Adobe Illustrator.

Got a sketch or doodle you want to work with in Illustrator on the iPad? With the Vectorize feature, you can tap to convert a bitmap image to vector art. Then, refine and color your artwork with the other tools you know and love.

  1. Tap to vectorize.

    Open an image of your sketch in Illustrator on the iPad, tap the Selection tool, and then tap the Vectorize button in the Task bar.

  2. Edit your new vector art.

    Tap Expand Vectorization in the Properties panel. Now you can use editing tools to fine-tune your vector shapes.

  3. Get to the point.

    Use the Direct Selection tool and contextual options to quickly add, delete, or modify points for smooth curves and sharp corners.

  4. Add some color.

    Select the object and tap the Fill or Stroke tool in the Properties panel toolbar. Then select from the Color wheel or Swatches, or enter color values.
