Quickly intertwine shapes and text in Illustrator.

Rearrange overlapping elements in seconds without redoing work.

  1. Select objects.

With two or more overlapping objects on the artboard, use the Selection tool to drag a marquee around them.

  2. Manipulate areas.

Choose Object > Intertwine > Make. Your cursor is now the Lasso tool. Draw around an area you want to manipulate, hover with the Lasso until the shape you want to move is highlighted, and then click.

Tip: If you have only two overlapping objects, Intertwine automatically brings the shape behind to the front. If you change your mind, lasso around the same area to return to the previous arrangement.

  3. Stay flexible.

When you use Intertwine on objects, they become a group. To edit later, select the group and click Edit in the Quick Actions section of the Properties panel. Or click Release to remove the effects altogether.
